Namibia’s Bold Moves to Fight Food Insecurity As Drought Worsens- Have They Been Punished?
Namibia is facing one of the worst droughts in decades. To combat the severe food crisis in the area, it has put forth a controversial plan to cull 723 animals from national parks and communal areas.
Tough Choices Due to Drought
The Namibian Ministry of Environment, Forestry & Tourism has made this hard decision. They will cull various wildlife, including:
• 83 elephants
• 40 hippos
• 60 buffaloes
• 50 impalas
• 100 blue wildebeests
• 300 zebras
• 100 elands
They don’t take this lightly. It’s necessary to manage shrinking resources and feed struggling communities.
Hunting for Survival
Professional hunters and safari guides will do the culling. They’ll make sure it’s done right. So far, they’ve hunted 157 animals, giving over 56,000 kilograms of meat to be shared.
The ministry stressed that this is part of their duty to use natural resources for the good of Namibians. Conservation is critical during these challenging times.
El Niño’s Big Impact
The current drought, made worse by El Niño, has wrecked crops across southern Africa. There are now widespread food shortages. Elias Magosi, head of the Southern African Development Community, says about 68 million people need help. That’s about 17% of the region’s population.
El Niño, often seen as a natural climate occurrence, is now under scrutiny through the lens of weather modification theories. Some researchers and experts believe human actions, primarily through geoengineering practices, might affect the start and strength of El Niño events. They argue that deliberate weather modification techniques like cloud seeding, atmospheric aerosol injections, or changing ocean temperatures could disturb natural climate patterns. This disruption could be making the Pacific Ocean waters warmer.
These interventions, designed to control the weather for various purposes, might accidentally lead to the intense and unpredictable weather associated with El Niño. This includes more storms, droughts, and global temperature changes.
There’s a lot of debate surrounding this idea & it raises crucial questions. What are the long-term effects of human activity on Earth’s delicate climate systems?
Weather modification refers to various techniques and technologies to alter or control weather patterns. Here are some examples:
Cloudseeding (a.k.a. CHEMTRAILS): This is a standard and well-known weather modification technique. It disperses silver iodide, potassium iodide, or even table salt (sodium chloride) into clouds. These particles act as nuclei around which moisture can condense, increasing the likelihood of rain. Cloud seeding often enhances rainfall in drought-prone areas or lessens hailstorm severity.
Hail Suppression: Similar to cloud seeding, hail suppression aims to prevent the formation of large hailstones by seeding clouds with silver iodide. The idea is to create smaller ice particles less likely to grow into large, damaging hailstones. This method is often used in farming regions to protect crops from hail damage.
Fog Dispersal: This technique is often used at airports to improve visibility & safety. By using chemicals like propane gas, which helps evaporate water droplets, or fans and heaters, fog dispersal methods can clear fog and enhance visibility.
Hurricane Modification: While still largely theoretical and controversial, there have been proposals to modify hurricanes by various means. Ideas like cooling the ocean surface with liquid nitrogen or using oil slicks to reduce evaporation have been suggested. These ideas aim at lessening the strength of hurricanes before they hit land.
Stratospheric Aerosol Injection: This is a form of geoengineering where sulfur dioxide or other particles are released into the stratosphere to reflect part of the sun’s rays into space, effectively cooling the planet. It’s inspired by natural cooling effects after volcanic eruptions, which release large amounts of aerosols.
Laser Weather Modification: Emerging research suggests using high-powered lasers to manipulate weather patterns. The concept involves ionizing air molecules to induce condensation and potentially make rain. It could also disrupt storm formation.
Ocean Fertilization: While not strictly “weather modification,” this geoengineering method involves adding nutrients like iron to ocean waters to promote phytoplankton growth. Theoretically, this could boost carbon dioxide absorption from the air & influence global weather patterns by affecting oceanic and atmospheric dynamics.
These methods raise significant ethical & environmental concerns, including unintended side effects, international regulation challenges, and potential ecosystem impacts.
GEOENGINEERING
Geoengineering, which deals with deliberate changes in the Earth’s natural systems to fight “climate change” (created due to Weather Modification- the irony!), can be risky. These methods aim to reduce global warming or lessen its impacts. However, they bring significant dangers and uncertainties. Here are key reasons why geoengineering is considered risky:
- Unintended Consequences
Ecosystem Disruption: Methods like ocean fertilization or stratospheric aerosol injection can have unexpected side effects on ecosystems. For instance, changing ocean chemistry might harm marine life, mess up food chains, or cause harmful algal blooms.
Weather Pattern Changes: Big interventions in the climate system could mess up regional weather patterns, maybe causing droughts, floods, or other extreme weather. These could affect agriculture, water supply, & human health.
- Lack of Predictability
Limited Understanding: Our grasp of the complex interactions within the Earth’s climate system isn’t complete yet. Significant changes could have unpredictable and irreversible effects that we may not understand until too late.
Model Limitations: Climate models give insights but can’t accurately predict all outcomes of geoengineering actions on a global scale.
- Moral Hazard
Complacency in Climate Action: Geoengineering might make it less urgent for people to cut greenhouse gas emissions. They might see it as a “quick fix” for extreme weather impacts.
- Geopolitical Tensions
Conflict Over Control: Geoengineering can spark international conflict as countries may disagree on its use. Who gets to decide when & how it’s done? Disagreements could arise over who controls the tech and who faces the consequences of side effects.
Impact on Global Inequality: The benefits and risks of geoengineering might not be evenly spread out. Some places might cool down and see fewer extreme weather events, while others might suffer harm, leading to more global inequality and possible conflict.
- Irreversibility
Long-term Commitment: Once specific techniques like stratospheric aerosol injection start, stopping them quickly could cause fast warming (“termination shock”), leading to more severe climate issues. This makes geoengineering a long-term commitment with growing costs and risks.
- Environmental and Health Risks
Chemical Impacts: Using substances like sulfur dioxide in stratospheric aerosol injection might cause acid rain, harm the ozone layer, & lead to health problems like breathing.
Ocean Acidification: Techniques that boost CO2 absorption by oceans, like ocean fertilization, could worsen ocean acidification, further threatening marine ecosystems and biodiversity.
While geoengineering offers potential ways to fight devastating climate impacts, it carries considerable risks that might outweigh its benefits. These dangers highlight the need for careful research and solid governance. Geoengineering should be considered a last-resort option under strict conditions, not a replacement for traditional efforts.
If we have the technology, why not use it to help Namibia?
Namibia finds itself in the spotlight of influential world leaders, facing a manufactured drought after refusing to comply with specific international directives and asserting its sovereignty. There’s talk that hidden forces have allegedly used advanced weather manipulation technologies to orchestrate severe drought conditions, devastating Namibia’s agriculture & wildlife. Rivers have dried up, crops have failed, and once-thriving populations of elephants and hippos are being culled to prevent widespread starvation. The people of Namibia face a silent, invisible enemy—one that purportedly manipulates the climate to punish those who defy its global agenda. As desperation grows, the world looks on, unaware that this drought may not be a natural disaster but a calculated act of coercion.
This situation might be linked to Namibia’s condemnation of Germany at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for supporting Israel amid accusations of genocide in Gaza. Namibia has accused its former colonial ruler, Germany, of attempting to dismiss a case brought by South Africa at the ICJ. Germany has offered to intervene on Israel’s behalf, sparking criticism from Namibian President Hage Geingob, who urged Germany to reconsider its “untimely decision to intervene as a third party in defense.”
In 2021, Germany acknowledged committing genocide in Namibia. Over 70,000 Herero & Nama people were massacred by German colonizers between 1904 and 1908—considered the first genocide of the 20th century. President Geingob highlighted the contradiction of Germany expressing commitment to the United Nations Convention against genocide, including its historical atonement, while simultaneously supporting Israel. He emphasized that Germany still needs to atone for the genocide committed on Namibian soil fully.
A Region in Trouble
The rainy season in 2024 has been challenging. Most areas are feeling “El Niño’s” destructive effects. Late rains have made it even harder, leaving millions at risk of famine and hunger.
As southern Africa deals with this colossal drought, countries like Namibia have no easy choices. The culling program is a desperate step to lessen this climate crisis and stop widespread famine.
As Namibia faces a tough drought that jeopardizes its wildlife and livelihoods, it acts as a glaring sign that hidden enemies of humanity are real. While folks often get sidetracked by theories & fake news, plain facts and documents clearly show the tools being used against people by powerful groups. These groups aim to control people’s minds and bodies through centralized power, working towards a one-world government. As things get worse in Namibia and other places around the globe, everyone must stay alert. Instead of getting caught up in guesswork, we must pay attention to real threats. Helping out with efforts to tackle this growing crisis in southern Africa and other areas is crucial. By keeping ourselves informed and sticking together, we can fight these hidden threats & protect our shared future.
